Chester Penguins take in Columbia Falls meet, prepare for post-season
The Chester Penguins Swim Team traveled all the way to Columbia Falls, Montana July 9-10th for the Columbia Falls Invitational. Thankfully, we missed all of the thunderstorms and cold weather which was predicted to hit throughout the weekend. This was a large meet and even without stopping the meet, Saturday’s prelims finished at 6 p.m. However, it was ran extremely efficiently on Sunday, finishing at only 2 p.m. The Penguin’s had only 7 swimmers at this meet out of a grand total of over 300 swimmers. Attending the meet were teams from Bitterroot (Hamilton Valley), Choteau, Fairfield, Conrad, Cut Bank, Columbia Falls, Shelby, Sunburst, Plains, and Fort Benton.
Our swimmers of the week are Hunter Cole and Derek Melton. Hunter Cole is an extremely hard worker. He is only 7 years old, but he practices with the older swimmers, swimming the same distances as they do. All his hard work has been paying off because he dropped time in every single one of his events, including cutting his time in the 100 IM by almost 11 seconds. Awesome swimming Hunter! Derek Melton is our other swimmer of the week. Derek always has a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. He is always keeping practices interesting and fun for everyone, even when the swim sets are not very fun. Derek’s positive attitude makes him extremely coachable, and a great role model for the younger swimmers. Keep up the good work, Hunter and Derek!

With only one more meet before we start our post season, the Penguins have been swimming hard and cutting time. It has been fun seeing the improvements in every single one of the swimmers, and we can’t wait to see how we do in the post-season! Our last meet before divisionals is next week in Fort Benton, Montana. We hope to see everyone there!Posted: by OverlieP
