The CJI Lady Hawks got off to a bad start at the 9C Tournament, then turned that around to come back and earn a place in the Northern Divisional in Great Falls this weekend.
It all started with a game against North Star on Thursday. The two teams split during the regular season and there was no reason to believe this would be anything but a tough game for both teams. In the end it proved to be just that as the area rivals fought to a 34-28 decision. Unfortunately for the Lady Hawks, that decision went to the Lady Knights. (no stats available)
Friday CJI faced Big Sandy in loser out action and got the ball rolling. The Lady Hawks started fast and built a 19-7 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was just more of the same as the Lady Hawks led 32-10 at the half.
The third quarter saw Big Sandy pick up the scoring, but CJI added to their lead and held a 46-20 lead headed into the final period of play. The Lady Hawks won this one 56-28.
CJI was led by Kendahl Knapton with 10 points. Peyton Hawks had 8. Korrin Harmon 7, Kristina Dahinden 7, Katey Kammerzell 6, Adrianna Jamison 6, Khloe Kammerzell 6, Madeline Woods 4, Kayona Fraser 2.
The win put CJI in a tough loser out contest against Fort Benton Saturday. Coming off a win against the Lady Longhorns in Fort Benton the previous weekend, the CJI girls knew they were capable of taking this one, but it wouldn’t be easy.
The two teams battled in the first quarter and the Lady Hawks fell behind 16-12 by the end of one. In the second quarter CJI saw the deficit grow a bit as they trailed 25-19 at the half.
CJI took most of it back in the third quarter and it was Fort Benton by two, 31-29 headed into the final quarter of play. It was the Lady Hawks with the advantage in the fourth and a 44-41 victory.
The Lady hawks were led by Kristina Dahinden with 12 points. Also in double figures was Korrin Harmon with 11. Khloe Kammerzell had 8, Kendahl Knapton 8, Madeline Woods 5.
The win put CJI into the consolation final against rival North Star; the same team they lost to in the first round. This time the game went the other way. North Star pulled away a bit in the first quarter and led the game 10-6. CJI came back strong in the second and turned it around to take a 23-20 lead at the half.
The third quarter was played even making it a 34-31 game headed into the final eight minutes of regulation. The fourth quarter was hard fought, but went to CJI giving the Lady Hawks a 49-43 win.
The Lady hawks were led by Korrin Harmon with 23 points. Also in double figures was Khloe Kammerzell with 11. Kristina Dahinden had 7, Kendahl Knapton 5, Madeline Woods 3.
The win gave the Lady Hawks a berth in this week’s Northern Divisional in Great Falls. The CJI girls will open their tournament with a game at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Great Falls Central, winners of the 10C tournament.Posted: by OverlieP
