The Way I See It – I have to acknowledge that some Christmas presents aren’t fun to get
I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas and New Year holidays. I know I did… and didn’t. On Christmas Day my daughter Acadia and I came down with different virus’, mine manifest itself in a nasty head cold, Acadia had a just as nasty stomach bug.
Unfortunately I got better, then worse, than better, then a different (stomach/intestinal) kind of sick and it went on right through New Year’s. I still have a head cold. I think the first nasty cold weakened my immune system, and I caught every virus in the air back-to-back-to-back! I seem to be getting better as of January 2nd, but I’ve been here before. Hopefully I’ve gotten through enough now I won’t have a relapse again.
I get a minor cold and a stomach/intestinal bug about once each every year. Sometimes the head cold will hang on for a couple of weeks and sometimes I will get more than one, but not often in either case. I think I have missed work once, for a couple of days, for illness in the past 10 years and have yet to miss a day with this series of virus’ (so far). Prior to that I can only remember missing two workdays for gall bladder surgery in the previous 15 years.
I don’t take sick days very often, but it was a close thing December 26 and 27th.
So I took by usually two-day winter vacation (I closed the office for a week but had to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; no way out of it and still get the paper out) and spent it trying to get better. No fun at all. I was hoping to take Eve ice fishing and ice skating over the long weekend vacation. Instead I spent it weakly trying to put in a new toilet and hang out at home doing a little bookkeeping. I did get the toilet in, but didn’t accomplish much else.
Not much fun at all!
I’m looking forward to getting better this week (hopefully) and having a bit more fun covering sports and working. I may yet take a few days off, (probably in March) when I can hopefully have a bit more fun when I’m not working. I won’t hold my breath!
That’s why the Holiday break is such an opportune time for me to take time off. The kids are out of school, and I often have a chance to get some thing done ahead of time so I can take from the 23rd to the 2nd or 3rd off and maybe go do something. Maybe skiing, maybe ice fishing, something.
So I hope everyone had a better Holiday season than I did and may your 2017 be a great year for everyone!Posted: by OverlieP
